Map service makes spatial datasets available
directly over the Internet. Map services can be used by internet and desktop GIS clients such as ArcMap
and ArcGIS Explorer in addition to other software such as Google Earth and
AutoCAD. Using a map service make sharing GIS data easier and more flexible.
It allows the user to access GIS data layers without having to download the
data itself.
